Thursday, 4 November 1965Came in from Da Nang yesterday and been busy here and at An Khe since then. Leaving in an hour for Cam Ranh Bay. After Cam Ranh, will go to Vung Tau tomorrow then back to Saigon tomorrow night. This trip came right out of thin air with the greatest urgency attached to it. And it wasn’t a question of having any choice about it, because the nature of business was such that General Crowley just pointed his finger at me and said go as soon as you can. [Crowley sent Clark to investigate reports of port congestion throughout South Vietnam] Hardly had time to pack. Must stop and go catch my plane.
